RATIONAL

Grip strength is directly influenced by the forearm muscle bulk. Grip strength could be influenced by the forearm circumference. If a correlation could be found between grip strength and forearm circumference, it would provide a gauge for clinicians to estimate patients grip strength through eyeballing the width of the patient forearm.

Normally in the clinic, the dynamometer is not always available. Hence, we decided to embark onto this project to determine if the circumference of the bulk muscle of the forearm is co-related to the grip strength. In this way, we are able to estimate the grip strength of the patient by just measuring the forearm circumference by a measuring tape, which is more readily available. This is also a way for us to have a quantitative value to gauge the patient’s progression in grip strength.
